WCW: The Best of Clash of the Champions

Hello wrestling fans, it’s time for another DVD review. Watching WCW: The Best of Clash of the Champions brought back so many memories. Helped me remember how much I hated WCW. I must admit, the only thing that made WCW worth watching is the quality in the matches. The very first match presented was the main event of the first ever Clash of the Champions back in 1988, between "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Sting for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

They are going to become members of the Hall of Fame symbolically this is the term I am using for certain members of the Four Horsemen,  Paul Roma will never be inducted as a singles competitor, and Chris Benoit career is no longer part of the history of the WWE. So this is the closet they we ever get to HOF.

Sting (1989–1990)

Sting joined the group when Arn Anderson made his returned from the WWF. He was picked for an angle, during this time Sting was the hottest babyface and he was going to face the World Champion, Ric Flair. So the group picked him as their fourth member in order to keep him away from the title. The fact that he was a member of the Horsemen didn’t stop him from wanting to become the World Champion,

This Week in Wrestling (March 24, 2012)

Raw began with CM Punk, in the middle of the ring; he was highly pissed off with Chris Jericho for airing out Punks dirty laundry on live television. Jericho told the WWE Universe that CM Punk’s dad is an alcoholic, and because of this Punk is straight edge, he doesn’t drink, doesn’t do drugs or smoke. Jericho continues his attack on Punk’s family, and brings up his sisters long battle with substance abuse.

Hulkamania Is Back

The match between Sting & Hulk Hogan was exactly what I had predicted before, they both moved very slowly inside the ring and outside the ring. This match needed to have many players evolved in order to make it look good. Ric Flair was on the out and Eric Bischoff son, Jackson James was the referee, they both made the match interesting. Hogan hit the mat twice in this match; this was interesting because I thought he wasn’t going to land on his back. Sting & Hogan were busted wide open, but in the end Sting made Hogan tap out with the Scorpion Death Lock. Immortal hits the ring after that match and proceeded to pick apart the Stinger piece by piece.  Bischoff was attempting to hit Sting with a chair shot, but Jackson James took the chair away from his father. Bischoff turned on his son and hits him with the chair. The Stinger was crawling on his stomach begging for help and the Hulkster tore his shirt and gave it to him, they both cleared the ring. Hulk Hogan was going to retire on Impact Wrestling, and I for one would have been happy if such an amazing career came to an end on the mic rather than in the ring. As I predicted months ago, the main event for Bond for Glory was going to be ‘The Icon’ Sting, in his joker costume, vs. ‘The Immortal’ Hulk Hogan and I was right again, this match is going to down, folks. If Hogan loses the match to the Stinger, he will give control of Impact Wrestling back to Dixie Carter. I want everyone to understand that I get goose bumps very time I see the Hulkster walk down the ramp, but Impact Wrestling is expecting the fans to buy this Pay Per View, because of this main event, I don’t think so. Hulk Hogan is a 58 year old man and he has had 9 back surgeries, yes folks I said 9 back surgeries. We all saw the last match between Sting & Flair a couple of weeks ago. That match was horrible, because they both don’t move as well as they use to. I will buy this PPV for the World Championship match, Bobby Roode vs. Kurt Angle, the X Division Championship match between Austin Aries & Brian Kendrick and even the I Quit Match with AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels.  I can’t speak for many fans, but I can say this if you want to see these guys wrestle at their best watch this.

I would like to take this opportunity to explain that I don’t call myself an expert, nor do I have someone in the “inside” of any wrestling company, what I am, is a wrestling fan that  writes about what he likes and what he dislikes.  I really hate trashing a sport that I have grown to love since I was five years old, but TNA (Impact Wrestling) should stop and start all over again. With that being said these last couple of weeks have been amazing for wrestling, there is a buzz in the air that reminds me of the late 90’s. It’s incredible how CM Punk is getting “Over” and TNA is trying to capitalize on the popularity that Punk has gained by showing all his matches during his time with the company on TNAOnDemand.com. I know, TNA is doing bad but using a wrestler from another company to make a profit, sh*t that’s bad. What’s next, are they going to give us “R-Truth greatest matches”, if there are any? I can’t really understand what’s going on with TNA, they had my attention a couple of weeks ago, but ever since Mr. Anderson got bully in to joining Immortal I lost interest in the product. I was expecting the younger wrestlers to get an opportunity to shine with this “Wrestling Matters” campaign, but all I see is these wrestlers, that are clearly past their prime attempt to make a comeback. We see an Icon turn into a raving lunatic that believes he is the Joker. If you ask me he is trying to impersonate Jim Carey. Let’s get back to the subject, the Joker, I mean Sting is trying to bring back the real Hulk Hogan and if you don’t see it by now your simply blind, the main event for Bound for Glory it’s going to be Sting vs. Hogan for the umpteen time. Does TNA really believe that having these 80’s superstar clash in a PPV, draw money? They are clearly mistaken. What’s going to draw attention is the X division, and guys like Bobby Roode. These guys should be the focal point of the show not the back stage crap they are airing.  TNA, have great wrestlers in their roster, that are in their prime, but they are sitting back while the spotlight is on the older wrestlers. The WWE is showcasing their young talents at this very moment, and they are making a comeback in my opinion. So please TNA steal the idea of using younger wrestlers, instead of using wrestlers that are not on your own roster to make a profit.

Mr. Anderson is truly an A**hole

Mr. Anderson lost the Impact Wrestling Championship title last week to Sting, due to outside interference, by Kurt Angel. Anderson held title for only one month, why you may ask, I’ll tell you, in my opinion this guy doesn’t have the drive or heart for this business. I know that in the past I have written highly about him, but after seeing the way Impact Wrestling’s “creative team” has changed Anderson persona in so many different ways, makes me sick. What is really funny, he is allowing this to happen. He was interviewed by Sarika Jagtianti a staff writer for the Dover Post, and was asked “How long would you like to keep at it?” He answer “If I’m still doing this five years from now, please shoot me”, can you guys believe this. Anderson is in a position that many wrestlers will kill for and he is sh**ty all over it. He continues by stating “I love the wrestling business … but it doesn’t define me”, what does this even mean. Lou Thesz is rolling in his grave right now. Then he tries to justify his answer by saying “after 13 years of taking abuse I have aches and pains..” what a piece of work, the man right now is a top superstar in Impact Wrestling, while guys who love the wrestling, like Zack Ryder can’t even get on national TV. They later ask Anderson “what would you like do in the future?” and his answer was an actor, “I’d like to transition into movies TV, maybe some behind-the-scenes stuff here at TNA”. I guess I was totally wrong about this guy, I truly believe he was the future of Impact Wrestling, but he is only another wrestler who is out there to make a name for himself in order to enter Hollywood, who does this guy sounds like? Can anyone say Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? In order to explain what wrestling means to me I will quote Jim Cornette; wrestling is “unique American art form”, this is passion, something Mr. Anderson apparently knows nothing about.

Impact Wrestling (07/07/2011) part one

Hello again wrestling fans. Mr. Anderson became the newest member of Immortal, by turning on Kurt Angel. I must retract my statement about Mr. Anderson I wrote on June 14^th, I was expecting a lot from him and all I saw was a mid-card wrestler get bullied in to joining a gang. Most likely Anderson will turn on Immortal, but the damage is done, I will view him as a mid-card competitor, until he makes a huge impact.  There was a follower on facebook that commented on our post of June 14, Anthony Reese stated “he (Mr. Anderson) is not that good” and after what I saw, I must agree with him. During the first segment we saw Bully Ray bury the Impact Champion with his words, stating that Anderson can’t beat Sting on his own, and what does Mr. Anderson, our World Champion do, he joins that same group that doesn’t value his title reign.  I am going to change the subject, because I am really disappointed with Mr. Anderson. 

Bobby Roode

On to the Bound for Glory Series, there are guys in this tournament that are past their prime, such as RVD, Bully Ray, Devon, and Scott Steiner. We also have guys that are ready for a huge push, such as “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero, Matt Morgan, James Storm and Bobby Roode. Crimson and Gunner are the two top guys in the standing. These two wrestlers have the least experience, but they are leading the pack, while a guy who in my opinion should run through the competition has yet to gain a victory, Bobby Roode. Crimson gain seven points by defeating the injured Roode, on this edition of Impact Wrestling. I am all for putting young wrestlers “over”, but not at the expense of a wrestler with so much talent. Bobby Roode shouldn’t lose to a no-talent, Goldberg want to be, as a matter of fact he should be leading tournament standings. Prediction time, I think in the end Roode will win the Bound for Glory Series.

Impact Wrestling (06/30/2011)

Hello again wrestling fans. I was watching Impact Wrestling and I can’t believe that Sting was transformed into “The Joker”. His imitation is fine, but why is Impact wrestling turning an iconic figure like Sting into a crazed clown. Apparently Sting wants to bring out the old Hulk Hogan, by having him take his vitamins on national television. In my opinion the best match was the triple threat match between Lowki, Jimmy Wang, and Matt Bentley. This match had many high spot and we even saw a “Flying Elvis”. Lowki came out on top, after hitting the “Warrior’s Way” off the top rope and pining Bentley. This match shows that Impact Wrestling is taking serious their new slogan “wrestling matter”. The six person elimination match between the Knockouts was good and the ring was full of eye candy, except Winter, she is the worst looking Knockout. Mickie James came out on top after out lasting Ms. Tessmacher (HOTTEST), Madison Rayne (Ok Hot), Tara (MLIF), Angelina Love (HOT) and Winter. The main event match was Scott Steiner vs. Sting. Sting gain the win over Steiner after hitting the “Scorpion Death Drop”. Bully Ray, the Impact Champion Mr. Anderson and Hulk Hogan took turns attacking Sting after the match. Finally Kurt Angle came out to save Sting; wow it’s hard to keep up who’s whipping Sting.

Mr. Anderson is the new TNA Champion

For those who haven’t heard it yet Mr. Anderson captured the TNA World title last Sunday night at Slammiversary, by defeating the then current champion Sting. It was a good match, but not the main event of the night. I am actually excited that Mr. Anderson is getting a second chance to carry the title. His new gimmick is not really original, in my opinion it reminds me of a beer drinking, Texas Rattlesnake named Steve Austin. When Anderson was in the WWE he had an awesome gimmick, but the WWE never saw him as a World Champion. I enjoyed some of Mr. Anderson segments especially when he dressed up as the original Sting; it brought me back to the old WCW days. I really am expecting a lot for this title reign, but who will be his next opponent? I believe TNA’s roster is full of top young wrestlers that can have great matches with the new champ.  Bobby Roode is one of them, but he is on the disable list, Eric Young, Desmond Wolfe and D’Angelo Dinero. These guys are the future of TNA, but we can always count on the older guys getting the opportunities first. Kurt Angle could be the next in line for the title after his victory over Jeff Jarrett or is RVD back in the title picture? Only time will tell. Total Nonstop Action (TNA)

I have to admit, I'm not a big TNA (Total Nonstop Action) fan. I used to be, when it first started. When I first heard about TNA, I was introduced to the genre of X-Division, which I loved. AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Petey Williams, The Motor City Machine Guns - Alex Shelly and Chris Sabin, just to name a few. Whenever you saw any one of those guys in the ring together, you know you were in for some total nonstop action, pun intended. But of course with Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff writing and producing, etc. we have ourselves WCW Version 2. It's back to having the old guys in the spotlight. Whenever I put on TNA, all I see is Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, and no offense to two of my all time favorite wrestlers Sting and Ric Flair. I'm sorry guys but your time has passed, it’s now time for the new generation and that's what Hulk Hogan can’t understand. Yes, I know guys like AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Mr. Anderson, Kaz, Abyss (the poor-man's Kane), Samoa Joe, etc. are young guys that are in the spotlight and are getting their push to the top, but it's still some way around Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair and Sting. I may be wrong or out of line, maybe they're there to help the young guys climb the ladder to the top, I just think TNA broke away from what it used to be and what made them popular. It became another WCW, and I personally believe it's the wrong way to go. As you can see, one by one the older guys are starting to leave WWE. Shawn Michaels retired, Undertaker shows up randomly or for WrestleMania, Edge retired, Triple H is now backstage as an executive producer. The WWE is now depending on the young guys to do a good job. Yes, WWE is now PG, which I hate, but I still think they're heading in the right direction. They broke away from the celebrity guest host of Monday Night Raw, and I believe it's starting to slowly build up into a better show. TNA is TV-14 and that is better but I think the whole Mr. Anderson being an "asshole" gimmick is just TNA trying hard to be more mature than WWE. The way TNA uses the "asshole" gimmick, is cheesy. Tough Enough Trainer Booker T

Hello again wrestling fans, I am going to take this time to write a quick bio on one of the Tough Enough trainers Booker T. He is a highly skilled wrestler that has held numerous titles, in different Wrestling companies. Booker T has wrestled in WCW, WWE (at one point was named WWF) and TNA. The competitors of Tough Enough are in good hands with Booker T, he has held about thirty titles in his Pro-wrestling career, not many wrestlers have accomplished fiat.  He is also a Triple Crown Winner in WCW and the WWE. (A Triple Crown Winner is a Wrestler that wins the three major titles a specific Wrestling organization)

 Booker T started his Pro-Wrestling career in WCW in the Early 90’s with his brother Stevie Ray as part of Harlem Heat.  They faced many great tag teams, such as The Nasty Boys, Lex Luger & Sting , The Outsiders(Scott Hall & Kevin Nash), and  The Steiner Brothers, just to name a few. As member of Harlem Heat they won the WCW World Tag Team Titles, ten different times.

There after he became a single competitor and held the WCW World Television Title on six separate occasions. Booker T had a feud with The Crippler Chris Benoit, which led to one of the most exiting matches in WCW history, the matches were called Best of Seven Series. These matches culminated with a three way match for the title, in which Booker T was victories. Booker T also won the United States Heavyweight Championship belt by defeating Rick Steiner. He held the US title only once in his WCW career, but to his credit he was the last US Champion in WCW history.

Booker T became WCW World Heavyweight Champion at Bash at the Beach, by defeating Jeff Jarrett in an impromptu match. The original main event of the night was Hulk Hogan vs. Jeff Jarrett. The match needed to be changed because Hogan was fired live on the air by Vince Russo, after refusing to lose to Jeff Jarrett. Booker Held the WCW World Title on five separate occasions.  His fourth and final WCW World title was won on the darkest day in Pro-wrestling history, it was the last Monday Night Nitro on March 26, 2001. Booker T defeated Scott Steiner, and became the last WCW World Heavyweight Champion.  Booker reappeared on the WWE as the WCW champion as part of the Alliance. Booker T went back to his tag team roots and won the World Tag Team titles once with Goldust and once with Rob Van Dam. He won an eight man elimination match and became the WWE United States Champion. He held United States title three separate times. He also held the Intercontinental Championship once.

Booker T defeated Bobby Lashely and became King Booker, by winning the king of the Ring Tournament. King Booker formed "King Booker's Court", which included Queen Sharmell, William Regal, and Finlay. King Booker won the World Title by defeating Rey Mysterio at The Great American Bash, and proclaimed to be the King of The World. Booker T also was the first Champion of Champion, when he defeated the ECW Champion, The Big Show and the WWE Champion, John Cena at Cyber Sunday. He later left WWE and joined TNA. In TNA Booker T invented a title for himself, it was called TNA Legends Championship. He also joined the Main Event Mafia, where Scott Steiner and booker became the TNA Tag Team Champions, by defeating Beer Money Inc. Then he left TNA.

The Number One Contender

Last Thursday night on TNA Impact, we saw Mr. Anderson give a good promo that was interrupted by, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. Their announcement was that Mr. Anderson has to face Rob Van Dam in order to determine the number one contender for Sting’s TNA world title. Sting enters the Impact Zone and states “The Network” named him the special enforcer for the number one contender match. I believe ECW used “The Network” story line during the 90’s when it used to air on TNN (TNN later became Spike TV). I really didn’t get excited over this story line, since it has already been used, without success. The match ended when Sting & Mr. Anderson started to fight one another. We still don’t know who the number one contender is, what we do know is that Rob Van Dam won the match via a disqualification last Thursday night.
