Booker T is heading to the Hall of Fame

Last Monday night on Raw the WWE announced their latest inductee to the Hall of Fame, that man was the five time WCW World Champion Booker T. The WWE is honoring him even though must of his accomplishments were achieved in their former competitors, WCW. The Bookerman has won the WCW World title five times, but he has only held the WWE World Championship title once. He has held the US title in WCW and also in the WWE. Booker T has held the IC title and the tag team titles in both companies. His character as evolved; first he hailed from Harlem, then becoming “GI Bro” and finally becoming the King of the Ring. Now he is the general manger of SmackDown.

Make Take on the Royal Rumble

The 2012 Royal Rumble was a lackluster PPV. The first match was the World Championship title match in a steel cage between Mark Henry, The Big Show, and the champion Daniel Bryan. First of all I hate the fact that the WWE keeps downgrading the World Championship title by making it the opening contest. The ending was horrible; The Big Show held Daniel over the cage with one hand and then released him, what was that? Bryan regained the title, but the question is why can’t the champion retain his title with a clean win? The second title match was the WWE Championship match between Dolph Ziggler and the Champion CM Punk. The outcome was predictable; punk regain his title after he hit his patent GTS. On to the match between Kane and John Cena, will Cena embrace the hate or will he rise above the hate? This match ended with a double count out. The biggest high light of this match was when Kane choked slammed him to hell..lol. Now on to the Royal Rumble match itself. I actually enjoyed all of those crazy entrees, like Road Dogg who got the biggest pop of the night and Hacksaw Jim Duggan who entered the ring chanting Zack Ryder’s ex-girlfriend name, hooooooo. The return of Kharma was un-expected, but at least she eliminated Michael Cole. All three announcers were in the Royal Rumble match. When they announce Booker T, he stood up and he was wearing a sport jacket & his wrestling tights, hilarious. Everyone knows by now that Sheamus won the Royal Rumble and is on his way to the main event of WrestleMania 28. Did Sheamus deserve the win and the opportunity to main event WrestleMania? The answers is yes, apparently the WWE believes so because he is a fan favorite. The question is who will he face, the World Champion or the WWE Champion?

What Does the Future Hold for Brock Lesnar?

Former WWE Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar lost his third Mix Martial Art (MMA) fight, in the UFC against Alistair Overeem. Overeem is one of the biggest men I have ever seen.  Overeem hit Lesnar with a couple of knees to the body and then landed a huge kick to the abdomen, which drop Lesnar and left him unable to continue. Many of his other fights have ended in the same fashion. Frank Mir defeated Lesnar with a Kneebar that forced him to submit. Brock Lesnar suffered his second lost via a TKO, when Cain Velasquez caught him with a straight right that opened a gash on his cheek and again Lesnar could not defend himself. All of Brooke Lesnar losses have come in the first round and in my opinion proves that he has not fully recovered from his battle of mononucleosis. Brock promised his family that he will retire once he captures the UFC Heavyweight Championship, and to do so he needed to defeat Overeem. Lesnar lost this match and has publicly announced his retirement; he has accomplished a lot in such a short MMA career.

Bobby Lashely

This brings up many questions about Lesnar’s career, but there is one that interest me the most, which is why do pro wrestlers believe that they can make that transition from wrestling to MMA. Bobby Lashely and Batista have left the WWE to pursue careers in MMA. Bobby Lashely has an MMA record of seven wins and one loss, and to be honest I have never seen any of his fights, so I can’t really judge him. Batista has not been able get a fight in any promotion. Other wrestler’s that have been heard wanting to enter the octagon are Tara and Kurt Angle. Tara in my opinion is the only one that has actually come to her senesces. She has stated “realistically I’m forty, if I would have started this maybe, when I turned thirty, I think I could be ahead of the game and be in the mix”. These are words of a person that has realized she is a sport entertainer. I do not doubt their athletic ability, because I am a huge wrestling fan, but in wrestling the outcome is predetermine before the match starts. In MMA two men or women enter the cage and they beat them self senesces less until there is a clear cut winner. There is blood and amazing knockouts. In my opinion many of these wrestlers believe the hype that the WWE and/or TNA have built for them. I am not saying that they can’t take out an average guy (that is writing shit on a blog site) on the street, but the MMA competitors have been practicing the arts for years and that is what gives them an edge over pro wrestlers.

The second question that comes to mind is will he return to the WWE? It wouldn’t surprise me if he makes his return in a future WrestleMania to face The Undertaker. I can’t see him making his return on WrestleMania 28, the WWE is smarter than that, and they wouldn’t have two giant main events on one card. Third question is will he wrestle on a full time bases? I truly believe he will not, because Lesnar has made it clear that he never liked the traveling aspect of the business and besides what type of impact will he make in the world of wrestling, today. He is older and obviously has not fully recovered from his illness. In my opinion the WWE should stick to what they are doing right now, which is focusing on the younger talent. All of the Champions right now are younger and the future of business. Don’t get me wrong I am an old school guy. I have seen guys like Booker T, Jerry Lawler and Brock Lesnar himself in their prime; I hate to see them hold on to something that is not really there. I saw Jerry Lawler in a house show in New York City, and he looked slow in the ring, he can still entertain us, but it is because he takes us to our childhood. Brock Lesnar a great sports entertainer and in world of wrestling you never say never, so we may see him back in the ring sooner then we think.

This Week in wrestling for December 11, 2011

Monday night Raw started off with Mr. Excitement himself John Laurinaitis making four main event matches to determine who will face the WWE Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk in the TLC PPV. The first match made was Randy Orton vs. The Miz. In my opinion this match was good. I still can’t believe they will not give a clean victory to one of the best heels the WWE have on their roster. The second match was Alberto Del Rio vs. Daniel Bryan; this was also a good match. This match “finish” actually made Del Rio look good, I guess the WWE is tired of making Del Rio look, like a loser. Dolph Ziggler takes on “The Great White” Sheamus, chuck up another A+ match under Ziggler’s belt. Zack Ryder caused Ziggler the match, and to add insult to injury Ryder hits him with the “Rough Ride”, Woo Woo Woo, you know it.

Zack Ryder is challenging Dolph Ziggler for the US Title, after John Cena gave up his world title shot, which he won by defeating Zack Ryder. This was the fourth and final match to determine the number one contenders for the WWE Heavyweight Championship title. John Cena took on Ryder in a match that I thought was under rated by the fans. The crowd was into this match and they were cheering for their personal favorite, I feel that Ryder proved he is ready to be in the main event.  Ryder still lost, but he is still getting TV time, Woo Woo Woo, You Know It.

Booker T is making a comeback. The five times, five time, five time, five time, five time, WCW world champion is going to take on Cody Rhodes, in the TLC PPV. Cody Rhodes attacked Booker T while he was heading to his announcer’s site. Booker was absent most of the show, until he attacked Rhodes while he took on Bryan on this past SmackDown, can you dig that sucka?

We had women’s wrestling in the WWE and Impact wrestling. In the WWE we saw a Divas tag team match between Kelly Kelly & Eve Torres vs. Beth Phoenix & Natalya. The match ended when Kelly Kelly rolled up Natalya for the 123. On Impact wrestling we saw two matches, in the first match we saw Mickie James defeat Madison Rayne. In the second match we saw Traci Brook vs. the Knockout Champion and one half of the knockout tag team champion; Gail Kim. Traci had her orders to lay down in the middle of the ring after the bell rang, from Karen Jarrett, but Traci had other ideas.  She attempted to take out Kim, but Madison Rayne attacked her from behind to give the win to Kim. The match was the worst match on Impact wresting and it was still more entertaining than the Divas Match on WWE.

Gunner lost another match again to Garett Bischoff on Impact wrestling. After Gunner suffer the lost he attempted to hit a “Piledriver” in the outside of the ring, and finally his father comes to his senses and stop Gunner before he can deliver that damaging move. In a typical Eric Bischoff double cross, he pulls the protective mat and then told Gunner to deliver the “Piledriver”. Why is Garett Bischoff getting air time?

The 20 Greatest Wrestling Factions of All-Time!



Inside Wrestling Magazine

Hello again wrestling fans. I just finished reading the June issue of Inside Wrestling Magazine. They had an article called The 20 Greatest Wrestling Factions of All-Time! I really enjoyed the article because I am a big fan of factions. If you follow these wrestling groups you will find that many of their members became top wrestling superstars, after the group is dismantle. Let’s pick apart one of the factions on the list, The Alliance. The members in this group read like a Wrestling All-stars team; Steve Austin, Booker T, RVD, Kurt Angle, DDP, Chavo Guerrero, Billy Kidman and The Dudley Boys, just to new a few. The Alliance was created 2001, for the purposes to taking over the WWE. All of the members were former wrestlers of WCW & ECW. Most of these wrestlers became top superstars in the WWE after their run as Alliance members was over.

The Four Horsemen 

The list named the Four Horsemen as the number one faction in wrestling, and I most agree with list, and in my opinion they were truly the best. When I was seven year old I remember watching the Horsemen taking out The Road Warriors. After being a witness to a cohesive unit like Horsemen beat down one of the most powerful men in wrestling, I became an instant wrestling fan for life. The leader and champion was Ric Flair. The enforcer or the muscle was Arn Anderson. The Technical wrestlers were Tully Blanchard and Ole Anderson. The Manager of the group was J.J. Dillon. These men worked together for one objective, which was to keep the World title on Ric Flair and capture all the gold in the NWA.

CM Punk

There was one faction that was featured on this list, which I didn’t agree with. The NEXUS was ranked number seven on the list, but they haven’t existed for too long and I haven’t seen them make a big impact on wrestling. With all that being said, if this list should ever be reprinted in the near future I may agree with NEXUS seventh place ranking because CM Punk is the new leader of the NEXUS and I am expecting huge things from this new faction.

 

Legion of Doom

This article is also very informative. Legion of Doom was a faction that was lead by Paul Ellering in Georgia Championship Wrestling. The members were Jake Roberts, King Kong Bundy, The Iron Sheik and The Road Warriors. The Road Warriors used the name L.O.D while they wrestled in the WWE.

Tough Enough Episode Five

Hello again wrestling fans. On Tough Enough we saw Luke Robinson, go into the bottom three for the first time. He was seen by the trainers and the host Stone Cold Steve Austin as a person that doesn’t work well with others. In order to have a good wrestling match you have to make your opponent look good as well. Martin won the weeks challenge for the third time making him the top contender for that WWE Contract. Booker T put Ryan in his place, after feeling disrespected while he was talking. Ryan ‘Skidmarks’ Howe was in the bottom three once again, but this time he couldn’t convince Steve Austin to keep him on Tough enough.

Tough Enough Trainer Booker T

Hello again wrestling fans, I am going to take this time to write a quick bio on one of the Tough Enough trainers Booker T. He is a highly skilled wrestler that has held numerous titles, in different Wrestling companies. Booker T has wrestled in WCW, WWE (at one point was named WWF) and TNA. The competitors of Tough Enough are in good hands with Booker T, he has held about thirty titles in his Pro-wrestling career, not many wrestlers have accomplished fiat.  He is also a Triple Crown Winner in WCW and the WWE. (A Triple Crown Winner is a Wrestler that wins the three major titles a specific Wrestling organization)

 Booker T started his Pro-Wrestling career in WCW in the Early 90’s with his brother Stevie Ray as part of Harlem Heat.  They faced many great tag teams, such as The Nasty Boys, Lex Luger & Sting , The Outsiders(Scott Hall & Kevin Nash), and  The Steiner Brothers, just to name a few. As member of Harlem Heat they won the WCW World Tag Team Titles, ten different times.

There after he became a single competitor and held the WCW World Television Title on six separate occasions. Booker T had a feud with The Crippler Chris Benoit, which led to one of the most exiting matches in WCW history, the matches were called Best of Seven Series. These matches culminated with a three way match for the title, in which Booker T was victories. Booker T also won the United States Heavyweight Championship belt by defeating Rick Steiner. He held the US title only once in his WCW career, but to his credit he was the last US Champion in WCW history.

Booker T became WCW World Heavyweight Champion at Bash at the Beach, by defeating Jeff Jarrett in an impromptu match. The original main event of the night was Hulk Hogan vs. Jeff Jarrett. The match needed to be changed because Hogan was fired live on the air by Vince Russo, after refusing to lose to Jeff Jarrett. Booker Held the WCW World Title on five separate occasions.  His fourth and final WCW World title was won on the darkest day in Pro-wrestling history, it was the last Monday Night Nitro on March 26, 2001. Booker T defeated Scott Steiner, and became the last WCW World Heavyweight Champion.  Booker reappeared on the WWE as the WCW champion as part of the Alliance. Booker T went back to his tag team roots and won the World Tag Team titles once with Goldust and once with Rob Van Dam. He won an eight man elimination match and became the WWE United States Champion. He held United States title three separate times. He also held the Intercontinental Championship once.

Booker T defeated Bobby Lashely and became King Booker, by winning the king of the Ring Tournament. King Booker formed "King Booker's Court", which included Queen Sharmell, William Regal, and Finlay. King Booker won the World Title by defeating Rey Mysterio at The Great American Bash, and proclaimed to be the King of The World. Booker T also was the first Champion of Champion, when he defeated the ECW Champion, The Big Show and the WWE Champion, John Cena at Cyber Sunday. He later left WWE and joined TNA. In TNA Booker T invented a title for himself, it was called TNA Legends Championship. He also joined the Main Event Mafia, where Scott Steiner and booker became the TNA Tag Team Champions, by defeating Beer Money Inc. Then he left TNA.

Tough Enough

                      

Tough Enough aired this past Monday night on the USA Network.   For those who don’t know, Tough Enough is a reality series about 14 contestants who train and live under one roof, whose ultimate gold is  to win a WWE contract.  The 14 contestants will be trained by former WWE superstars, Booker T, Bill Demott, and Trish Status. The host and judge of Tough Enough is Stone Cold Steve Austin.  Wrestling fans can actually see what a wrestler goes through in order to entertain the fans on nightly bases. In the premier episode we saw the contestants run the ropes for three minutes without stopping, Stone cold and the trainers picked the worst three participants that performed the challenge. After Steve Austin questions the three competitors on why should they stay in the completion, one of them was sent home. Ariane Andrew a 23 year old California native was the first person sent home. She was asked by Steve Austin, which is her favorite match of all time; she answered Melina vs. Alicia Fox. The answer drove Stone Cold crazy.  Austin was right in sending her home; she has no sense of wrestling history.  There are so many unforgettable matches in Pro-wrestling history, and Ariane named Melina vs. Alicia Fox. This is the fourth season of Tough Enough. I understand that a version of Tough Enough was also aired on SmackDown, but it wasn’t the same format. Tough Enough will air on Monday nights on the USA Network at 8pm.
